Joe and Rosina, from San Diego, were hiking south near Duck Creek and on toward Virginia Lake in the Sierra in early August. Rosina is Joe’s spunky 68-year old mother on the trail for the first time (Joe has been section hiking for some years). It hasn’t all been easy. At Thousand Island Lake, Joe had finished for the day but Rosina had gotten turned around and had continued (the wrong way) up toward Island Pass. Finally other hikers encouraged her to turn back and not get separated from her hiking partner. Eventually they were reunited.
Rosina told us that she was “looking forward to seeing my doctor later in August and telling him that I am done with all of the pills I have been taking.” Anyone who can walk this trail cannot need all this medicine!
